1,000 musicians pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins with the cover of “My Hero”

There may be more moving things in this world A heartfelt loss and the uplifting power of music. Luckily, we had a bit of both last weekend when over 1,000 musicians gathered in Paris at the Stade de France for a Rockin’ 1000 concert that was highlighted by a hard-hitting tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

While the concert featured musicians from 25 countries coming together to perform classics from The Who, Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine and Guns N’ Roses, among others, it’s their tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins on “My Hero” which stole Show’s show.

It’s also no surprise that Foo Fighters were included somewhere in their setlist, as the whole “Rockin’ 1000” idea was born in late 2014 and came to fruition in early 2015 when 1,000 musicians came together to learn and perform “Foo Fighters”. Learn to Fly” in hopes of catching Dave Grohl’s attention and getting a Foos show in Cesena, Italy. The viral video caught the band’s attention and achieved the goal of bringing the Foos Fighters in Cesena, with some of the band members being invited to play with them.

The Foo Fighters Association continued with Rockin’ 1000 hosting a Foo Fighters cover and then a new song “Saint Cecilia” as well. Over time, the idea expanded to include more performances, and the Saturday (May 21) show in Paris marked its first performance in nearly three years.

For this performance, Alex Deschamps served as the conductor for the massive enterprise. And while many of the performers weren’t household names, Fever 333’s Aric Improta, Telephone drummer Richard Kolinka, French instrumentalist M and radio host Emilie Mazoyer were among those who performed on the show.

The choice of “My Hero” was poignant for the band, as Hawkins’ beats in the live setting definitely pushed the song forward and the drummer himself served as an inspiration to many. The tributes since Hawkins died on March 25 have been plentiful, but this one should end up being one of the most memorable due to its size and scope.
