Accomplished cellist makes goblin metal music with gibberish lyrics and it’s amazing

The other day my 21 year old daughter walked into the living room singing a random, rhythmic song that sounded like it was a different language. She came to a line that I misheard as “pequeño” and then laughed. I asked her what she was singing, and she said it was a TikTok of a guy playing cello and kazoo and singing gibberish.

“Just let me show you,” she said. “It’s too hard to explain.”

She was right. When you watch a video of Rushad Eggleston, it’s hard to explain. Most will let you say, “What did I just watch? But still wanting to watch more. They are fascinating in the strangest way possible.

I’ve never seen anything like it, and there’s a good chance you won’t either. In this video, Eggleston plays the cello in a bouncy 7 in 1 rhythm (which my string player daughter, music major, assures me is much harder than it looks) while singing / singing random and absurd words in a voice that can only be described as a goblin. Not only that, but he does it by showing his drawings of cartoon creatures with text boxes in which the gibberish lyrics he sings are written in.

Super bizarre but eye-catching, right? And the kazoo attached to his cello? This part killed me.

The comments on the video are hilarious.

“Goblin metal,” one person wrote, which really is the perfect description. “Gremlin core” is just behind. Another wrote: “” supernatural “usually means” heavenly, “but it has great purgatory energy and I’m here for it.”

But my favorite was, “The devil descended on Georgia in a different timeline.”

Eggleston has created a whole fantasy world – The Land of Sneth – where these creatures live and have their own language (although they sometimes speak English as well, which for some reason makes it even funnier).

“Do I do what I want, though?” I am dead. Why is it so random, so weird, and so fantastic?

I had no idea who Rushad Eggleston was when my daughter introduced me to her TikTok channel. It seemed pretty clear to me that he had musical talent, but it turns out the guy has bad musical talent.

Eggleston attended Berklee College of Music, one of the nation’s most prestigious music schools, on a full scholarship after winning a competition. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2002 for his collaboration with Fiddler’s Four. He taught rope camps to children. He recorded albums and traveled the world doing concerts.

Who knew?

The Berklee website describes Eggleston as “an eclectic, fanciful and inventive artist and personality.” On Facebook, he describes himself as “a wild nomadic and imaginative cello goblin, sneth ambassador and spreader of joy.”

How would you describe it otherwise?

Eggleston also makes beautiful traditional music. You have to scour the Goblin and Gremlin Metal Core to find it, but it’s there.

Eggleston’s musical styles may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and his land of Sneth with his “bnithual” characters may be too present for some people, but my family has found it a great deal of joy. look really unique. kind videos and enjoy its unique musical offerings.

In today’s upset world plagued by a pandemic, some silly and creative joy is more than welcome. You can find more of Rushad Eggleston on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
