During a recent interview on Detroit radio station WRIF’s Meltdown program, Megadeth frontman/founder Dave Mustaine revealed that the band recently recorded a cover of Judas Priest for an upcoming project on Amazon.
Mustaine: “We went to listen to the song and charted the performance. Going into that kind of micromanaging the song, we started to see a lot of things in the song where it seemed like there was no guide for the song. So we did everything like we do for our recordings, and I think it got a little easier with the riffs and stuff.”
A guest on BBC’s The Rock Show With Johnnie Walker for the show’s Rock God segment, Mustaine revealed that the Judas Priest song in question is “Delivering The Goods” from the Killing Machine/Hell Bent album. For Leather, released in 1978.

Mustaine: “I had no idea how much Glenn Tipton and Judas Priest had influenced my guitar playing until I recently covered ‘Delivering The Goods’ with my band, Megadeth, and was able to seeing all those guitar riffs again. It was really telling how much Glenn’s playing had influenced me.”
“I remember when I was living with my mom and we moved in with my younger sister – I have three older sisters – and she was married to a policeman who was the chief of police in a town called Stanton in California. He walked into his house and I heard Priest screaming in the bedroom I shared with their son it was my first time defending metal And when he came out you know what I did? put the disk back.

The sick, the dying… and the dead! solidifies a furious return to form that began with Grammy Award-winning Dystopia, while pushing the music forward and marking Mustaine’s recent triumph over throat cancer. Reuniting visionary Megadeth frontman and sound architect Dave Mustaine with co-producer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Parkway Drive), who helmed Dystopia together in 2016, the album was recorded at Mustaine’s home studio in Nashville, Tennessee, with guitarist Kiko Loureiro and drummer Dirk Verbeuren. Bassist Steve DiGiorgio temporarily stepped in to record the album. With the kick off of the recent Megadeth tour, Megadeth alum James LoMenzo has joined the Megadeth family as permanent bassist.
Featuring some of Dave Mustaine’s strongest songwriting while incorporating writing from the rest of the band, The Sick, The Dying…And The Dead! brings together everything exhilarating and distinctive about Megadeth. From the searing fury of “Night Stalkers” (with icon Ice-T) and first single “We’ll Be Back”, to the more mid-tempo and melodic “Soldier On!”, and the very personal title track, with its thrilling twists.
The sick, the dying… and the dead! merges the ultra-frenzied riffs, fiercely complex solos and adventurous spirit for which the quartet is known, all laced with Mustaine’s signature virtuosity and precision and singular sardonic growl. This album combines all of the crushing musical motifs that have made Megadeth both repeat metal disruptors and revered standard-bearers of the genre.
