Extreme metal sometimes makes its way into reality TV shows focused on music competition, but Nickelodeon is among the less likely places we expected to see. One family gave viewers a dose of brutality, performing a death metal cover of Smash Mouth’s “All Star” on America’s most musical family.

The family power trio, nicknamed Harris 3, took audiences and judges alike by surprise after an introduction by 98 Degrees host and singer Nick Lachey. Trent, who is only 11, delivered a screaming rasp against lighter instrumentation before 14-year-old drummer Ashton tore it all up with a series of blast beats, which positively overwhelmed everyone and certainly delivered. proud father and guitarist Jason.

“I’ve never seen death metal, especially live,” said judge David Dobrik. Although out of his element, Dobrik was definitely moved by the performance and linked to the genre in the same way real headbangers are. “I just wanted to start throwing things. I just wanted to go out there and destroy the drums and jump on the audience,” he beamed.

Singer-songwriter Ciara complimented Trent’s vocal range and expressed appreciation for Harris 3’s ability to bring something completely different to the competition.

Meanwhile, pop singer Debbie Gibson admitted she was familiar with rock and metal, but has never heard anything so heavy. Impressed by Trent’s heartbreaking voice, she asked if there was a warm-up technique involved. No, just a few pre-performance grunts to loosen it up. “Maybe I should try this,” Gibson said with a laugh. Please, we would like to see that.
