Prison City Music Festival at Deer Lodge April 9 | Music

DEER LODGE — Prison City’s first music festival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 at the Cutler Bros. Deer Lodge Theatre. Four groups will take the stage and each will have about 50 minutes to give the public their best show possible.

Kicking off the festival is Ugly Pony which has performed statewide and is known for its covers and characters. Next is the original Cutler Brothers band, Chronic Discharge, which Matthew and Kelly Cutler started 18 years ago when they were in high school. This will be the band’s first performance since then. Chronic is a heavy metal and comedy band and warns against “mature content”.

After Chronic, local band Geerd Weerd will be led by guitarist Roger Frazer. Frazer’s sons are the drummers for Walking Corpse Syndrome and his son Greg will perform at the festival. Frazer’s band also plays covers with some original tunes.

Headlining the festival is Butte native Russ Nelson with his band Shellshock Lullaby. Nelson’s other band, A River Runs Thru It, has just won the battle for the big stage and will perform with nationally acclaimed band Escape the Fate in the coming months. Nelson has grown from a one-man band to a three-piece ensemble and is thrilled to be back at Deer Lodge with the Cutler Brothers. He has performed as a musical guest for the entertainment company’s Comedy Nights in the past.
